No, we don’t know whether Sustrans will adopt the new route and divert NCN 544. Keep using it until we get notified otherwise which maybe when the permissive track needs to be repaired and the landowner wants Sustrans to pay for it.
There is a bus turning and waiting area at the end of Fermi Avenue, opposite the entrance to MRC. Buses are supposed to wait there until their scheduled departure time to avoid this situation i.e. blocking the road and this has been working OK. It looks like this particular driver did not know about this procedure.
The A34 ‘Bridge to Berkshire’ Path is a live project and we posted the following update was in HarBUG newsletter in February:
Highways England have reviewed the proposal for the path from the A34 Chilton Interchange to the West Ilsley Interchange with Kier, the design consultants. They have agreed for the project to go to the next stage. This is good news, although it is still a long way from getting the final go ahead. The next stage is negotiations with landowners and we know that this can stop a project.
I have asked Kier for a further update ahead of the HarBUG AGM on Wed October 9th. Come along to the AGM to get the latest on this project and other cycle projects in the Science Vale.

HarBUG has received an email from Gallagher Estates stating that they are unable to allow access across to Bury Lane for cyclists. They have requested that the signs should be respected and not to cycle on the tracks across the field.
Gallaghers have stated that they are liaising with Highways England on a potential new path.
I will let Highways England and Kier know that we no longer have a route we can use south of the Campus, it may help our case for building the path.
In the meantime, please do not cycle across the field, we will be relying on the landowner to sell some land to Highways England for any new path and, as we know, landowners can be difficult and scupper projects if they want to.

HarBUG ChairHi, the land / field in front of the school is private land owned by Harwell Campus (UKAEA) and there are signs on the perimeter hedge stating that there is no public right of way. The lady with the dog has no right to walk her dog and is legally trespassing.
There are no rights for the public to cycle on the land either, however you are not public, you are working on the Harwell Campus and you are using Harwell Campus land to get to and from the …..Harwell Campus.
We (campus cyclists) don’t have any rights to cycle on that land and the Campus could fence it off or build on it as they wish but using it to get to work is a reasonable use in the meantime.
It may be worth politely pointing out those facts to the lady with the dog but I have a feeling it will fall on deaf ears.
Another point to be careful of is that, in the past, UKAEA have fenced off and blocked access to land if there is any talk of access rights or rights of way etc.
Keep riding on the land unless Harwell Campus tell you / us otherwise.
