    My sister works for the Abingdon Town council and asked a contact a couple of days ago and passed on the following response:
    “The works on 3B1/2 have all been completed last week. We did have issues with the public using the path before it had the chance to set, and we had to re-do the damaged areas every morning for about 2 weeks before we could start the programmed works.”
    I’m planning to try it out with the family on Saturday.

    In addition to the suggested comments above when objecting, I have also mentioned the fact that this route is regularly used by families and also by children from Harwell cycling to school in Didcot.

    I use the Garmin 520 and was under the impression the Bolt was comparable to that rather than the 800, but I may be wrong as I’ve not used an 800.

    Hi, is anyone using Blenheim Hill to get from to site?
    I was just wondering what it was like to get past on a bike?

    I’d certainly be interested in bike maintenance training – more gear and brake adjustments for me.

    I’ve looked at the Evans Cycles FIX IT training which runs every two weeks in Reading, but it’s not a good night for me due to family commitments.

    I believe that while this was the original plan, there was objection from landowners who needed to access fields alongside the road which led to the current situation with road calming rather than a closure to non-motorised traffic.

    Something to slow traffic at the top would be useful, but given the visibility around bends road humps would seen to be the only option.

    Ah, right. Too much hassle for what it’s worth.
    It has got pretty awful. Even on a front suspension bike it’s not good. The worst bit right not are the potholes that have not been filled near the Harwell Campus end. There is at least a clearish track through the farmer’s repairs.

    Surely some strategically placed barriers/folding bollards away from the entrance that the farmers could have keys to would solve the problem of it being a rat run pretty easily?

    Also, when I last drove through them they were quite long so they probably just don’t want cyclists riding through there.
    Mind you, last time there were road works with lights there I could easily keep up or was even slowed down by cars going through them.

    Is it worth contacting the Oxfordshire County Council (I believe they are responsible for this)?

    If they are not official road signs, then in my opinion they shouldn’t be there.
    It seems a bit like me putting my own “no parking” sign up to stop people parking outside my house.

    Quite simply, some bikes just aren’t suitable for the routes around here – there’s no way I’d ride my road bike up the Winnaway or across the track over the field to Upton.

    I’d agree that shared cycle way and paths are not suitable for the speed of some. I’ve regularly seen a large group of people leave the bus park, go over the zebra crossing and completely take up the cycle portion of the shared path as well as the pedestrian portion even when bikes are approaching.

    I’ve found all roads around here pretty good for driver attitudes. Only one incident a couple of weeks back when a driver gesticulated at me to go onto the cycle track, completely oblivious to the fact he was not paying attention to or looking at the road at the time 🙂

    It looks like it was just added without any thought about how it would be used. It seems to have been stuck on to fit around the existing road rather to integrate with it.

    It’s not going to encourage cycle use along it in my view. Stop, start, stop, start over a short stretch then back onto the road!

    A proper well thought cycle track all the way to Harwell would be great, but as it is I will still be using the road on my commute.

    It should be great to watch and see how fast the pros go.
    Hopefully some will upload their times to Strava so I can compare and see how slow I really am.
