OCC have started consulting on some changes affecting the Didcot-Harwell route as part of the new link road that is going in. Most is pretty simple, new speed limits etc, but they are also planning a width restriction on the Harwell side of the new link road roundabout that I think is going to create a rather dangerous pinch point for cyclists heading to campus through Harwell.
Basically the planned wide exit lane from the roundabout on the Harwell side rapidly narrows to 2.1m with a constructed traffic island pinch point. The shallow flare of the exit lane encourages speed and I think we all can appreciate that the 30mph limit will be treated as a minimum. There’s a real danger of cyclists being squished into the kerb.
