Has anyone had a bad experience being overtaken by a gold coloured Kia (OY62BHF) over the last few months? I seem to be lucky in that I rarely get overtaken in a dangerous way by this car has been going past me regularly in a way that makes me wonder if they’ve even seen me.
It’s always between Steventon and Harwell site. This morning it was on Steventon hill where there was no traffic coming the other way and they had two whole extra lanes they could have moved into.

“I seem to be lucky in that I rarely get overtaken in a dangerous way BUT…”, not BY!

Sounds pretty standard for some of the drivers round here. If it’s happening repeatedly it might be worth a call to Thames Valley Police via 101. They can have a word and that might be enough to change behaviour.
I got this one this morning right at the entrance to site:

I got overtaken with barely 10cm space by a gold Kia this morning with no traffic coming the other way on that road not too far from campus this morning. It was some kind of Qashqai I think but I didn’t get the number, so I can’t really complain to the police myself.. if you didn’t yet though, I would think it’s worth doing, doesn’t seem like it’s just you that car is out to get.

Interesting, according to the DVLA, the car with the registration quoted by Gary is silver, not gold!!
I loved NP’s video “what’s he on about, that grey car gave him plenty of room -whoa!, where did that come from!?”

We need to get the police to have a ‘word’ with this Gold Kia driver. Where did this morning’s near miss happen?
Has anybody else had a problem with this car, even if you have just thought it was one of those things that happens now and then? We also need to get a second confirmed number plate identification.
We don’t have to put up with this kind of behaviour and if we work together we can get the police to take action. -

This morning was coming from the Rowstock direction just before the Icknield way crossing at around 7.40. I was a bit taken by surprise and didn’t get any more info than gold medium-sized Kia though.

Gold was the nearest colour I could think of! Dirty silver might also describe it.
The last time I complained to the police about a driver (red micra which I also mentioned on this forum) they were very good about it and said they’d go and have a word with the driver if the car was spotted. That was with no evidence other than my word.
Interestingly this Kia seems to be coming from the same direction and was passing me in roughly the same places, at the same times and in the same way as the micra. I wonder if the driver of the micra bought a new car….?

It’s worth mentioning that police can issue fixed penalty charges for careless driving, 3pts + £100 fine. From when I last spoke to them it seemed that would be the approach for repeat offending but I assume they would require camera or independent witness evidence for that.
If anyone is interested you can pick up the Garmin Virb for about £75-85 (that’s the camera I was using in the clip I posted).

What’s the usual procedure for cyclists wishing to complain to TVP about careless driving? Phone 101 and send any video clips into a particular email address?

Yep phone 101. They’ll take a few details and check you have some evidence (camera or witnesses). They pass them on to a member of the road policing unit who will give you a call back – for me this was the following morning. The officer took some more details and I was asked to upload to youtube and send a link to the officer’s email address. I was also asked at this time what outcome I was looking for – advice letter, prosecution etc. After the officer had looked at the footage he called back and asked again if I was happy with the advice letter approach with a link to the footage in the letter. I then got another call once the letter had been sent out and checking I was happy with their response.
Better process than I was expecting to be fair. I’m not sure how it differs with no corroboration – I imagine an advice letter would be possible but not sure if it would be passed to the roads unit or not.

I reported the Micra driver using:
https://reportonline.thamesvalley.police.uk/
I didn’t provide any evidence but did subsequently catch the same car shortly afterwards doing the same thing on camera. I stopped seeing it after that so I didn’t notify the police.
The response I got was:
“The information you have provided about the vehicle you witnessed driving dangerously has been added to an observations list. This means if the vehicle is seen by Officers it will be pulled over and the driver given words advice about the conduct of their driving.
Getting any conviction from the report you have made would be very difficult as the Crown Prosecution Service require certain criteria to be met for any conviction to be issued. The main thing missing in this instance is an independent witness (someone who witnessed the event in the same way you did, but is not connected to you or the offender in anyway). Without multiple independent witnesses the Crown Prosecution Service will not allow the case to go to court.
Thames Valley Police does, however, understand the nature of your complaint and knows that the manner in which people drive must be dealt with if they are posing a risk to themselves and others, so you can be assured that the vehicle you have reported will be looked for.”

Hi, I’ve just started cycling to work from Didcot (day 2), and got passed far too close by a gold Kia this morning also! I must have been a few minutes behind you, arrowlee, as it was halfway between the Rowstock roundabout and Icknield Way crossing. I can only assume this is the same car.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a helmet camera, and didn’t catch the numberplate. I’ll look out for it tomorrow though, as I intend to do the same route and the same time. I was planning on knocking on the window, as it went past fairly slowly due to traffic up ahead, but wasn’t sure that if that caused an accident I would be liable…?

The same driver has been pulling the same dangerous manoeuvres again in the last couple of weeks so I’ve finally reported them to the police. I’ll also be getting my helmet camera out again (and trying to remember how to use it).
